During a promotion for BLBFIT at Lucky Lou’s in Denton last week, I had the pleasure to try the “Keep the Pint Night” beer for that week. I love Hefeweizens, think it has to do with my German heritage, or just the fact the Hefeweizes are cloudy cups of fruity goodness, either way, I wasn’t going home without trying that Hefe.
I hadn’t heard of Pedernales until that night and to my surprise, it now ranks list of top Hefeweizens. Their German-style brew was a light, refreshing, golden ale with the right amount of cloudy in my pint glass. The tones of banana and apricot tickled my tongue as I enjoyed this masterful recipe. No wonder it has received seven medals; three being gold at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO. Every drop of that delightful Hefe deserves a pat on the back for being pretty much a perfect. A hug, too.
Needless to say, now I’m seeking out Pedernales brews so I can try them all. There is a complete list on their website (pedernalesbrewing.com) but here is a short list in our area. Carrollton: Albertson’s on Josey Lane, Twister Root Burger Co. on Main, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop on Midway. Albertson’s in Corinth. Denton: Albertson’s on University, Kroger on Loop 288, Metzler’s F&B on Londonderry, Misway mart on Hickory, 4 Quicktrips in town and the Sac N Save off 35, North bound. Flower Mound: Kroger on Flower Mound Rd, FM Beer, Wine & Gas on Cross Timbers and Whip In on Morris. Lewisville: Albertons’ on Main, 3 Quicktrips in town and T’s Bar & Grill on 121. They are everywhere!
Other brews available by Pedernales are Lobo Lito, a Premium Texas Pilsner; Lobo, 1910 Pre-Prohibition American lager; Lobo Negro, a dark lager; and Pedernales Classic (orange label,) an English-style IPA.
The only bad thing about this brewery, at least for me, is that it’s so far away! A trip is in my future to visit Fredericksburg to try many different wines, and now I have even more reason to go. The Brewhouse is open Fridays from 3pm – 5pm and Saturdays 1pm-5pm. If you are going to that side of the state, be sure to visit the tasting room and take a tour. From the pictures on their website, it looks magical.
